FAQ

How do I book a session?

A.Booking is simple and convenient! Most sessions can be booked directly online- just choose your session type, date, and time. A non-refundable $50 retainer and signed contract are required for most portrait sessions (a larger retainer applies for special events). The remaining balance is due the day of your session. Once your retainer and agreement are received, your session is officially booked!

Where do sessions take place?

A.All sessions are scheduled at Bay Laurel Photography studio unless otherwise approved. Requests for alternate locations must be discussed and approved prior to booking.

The Bay Laurel Photography experience is intentionally studio-centered. By working primarily in the studio, I’m able to create consistent, beautifully lit images in a calm and comfortable setting.

Off-site locations are considered on a limited basis and must be approved prior to booking to ensure they align with my artistic style and quality standards.

When should I book my newborn session?

A.Book early to ensure availability! Please schedule your newborn session date as close to your due date as possible. Once your baby arrives, we’ll adjust your exact session date and time to fall within the ideal window for newborn photos (typically within the first two weeks).

Do you offer in-home newborn sessions?

A.I completely understand the desire for the comfort of home during those early days, but all newborn sessions take place in my studio located just north of Fulton, Mississippi. The studio is designed specifically for newborn photography- it’s warm, quiet, and fully equipped with everything needed to safely and beautifully capture your baby’s first portraits. This setup allows me to provide the best possible lighting, consistency, and experience for every session.

What if my baby comes early or late?

A.No worries at all. Babies run on their own schedule! Your booking holds a flexible spot on my calendar, and we’ll adjust once your little one arrives.

What if my baby gets fussy or doesn’t settle during the session?

A.Please don’t worry- it’s completely normal! Babies have their own rhythms, and part of my job is to work patiently around that. The studio is kept warm and calm, and I always allow plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing breaks. We’ll move at your baby’s pace, and I’ll gently guide everything so you never feel rushed or stressed.

Even if it feels like baby isn’t cooperating, I promise we’ll capture beautiful, meaningful images. It just takes a little patience and flexibility (which I have plenty of!).

What should I bring to my newborn session?

A.You don’t need to bring much- I provide everything needed for your baby’s portraits, including wraps, blankets, and simple studio props. I do recommend bringing:
•A pacifier (even if baby doesn’t typically take one)
•A bottle or plan to feed during the session
•Diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes
•Any small keepsake you’d like included (like a blanket, hat, or family heirloom)

Everything else is taken care of. The studio is warm, calm, and designed for baby’s comfort.

What should I wear?

A.I always recommend soft, neutral tones and simple textures. They photograph beautifully and keep the focus on connection rather than clothing. Think creams, beige, sage, taupe, dusty blue, or soft blush. Avoid neon colors, busy patterns, or large logos, as they can distract from the natural feel of your photos.

For families, coordinating (not matching) is key. Choose a soft color palette and mix in subtle variations of tones and fabrics. For example, mom in a flowy neutral dress, dad in a solid or textured shirt, and the kids in coordinating soft tones.

For newborn and milestone sessions, I keep things simple: swaddles, knits, and timeless pieces always look best. And for heirloom sessions, classic, dressier outfits like linen rompers or vintage-inspired dresses are beautiful.

If you’re ever unsure, I’m happy to help! I offer styling assistance and can help you choose outfits that feel effortless and true to you.

What happens if it rains or my child is sick?

A.If weather or illness prevents your session from taking place, your retainer will transfer to a new agreed-upon date. I keep my schedule flexible for these situations, especially with little ones!

When will I receive my photos?

A.Your online gallery will be delivered within two weeks of your session. You’ll receive a private link to view, download, and order prints directly from your gallery.

How many images will I receive?

A.Each package includes a minimum set number of fully edited, high-resolution digital images. See investment for exact numbers guaranteed with each package.

Do you edit blemishes, bruises, or baby acne?

A.Yes, light retouching is always included to ensure your images look polished and natural while still authentic.

Can I print my photos anywhere?

A.Yes! You'll receive high-resolution digital files with a print release. For the best quality and color accuracy, I recommend ordering professional prints, wall art, and albums directly through the print lab linked to your gallery. Products ship quickly and directly to your door.

Do you offer gift certificates?

A.Yes! Gift certificates are available in any amount. They never expire and can be used toward any session. Just message me with the recipient’s name and the amount you’d like to purchase, and I'll quickly send an invoice and printable certificate your way.

What is the best time to schedule my session?

A.Indoor studio sessions are more flexible and can be scheduled any time of day since the space has consistent light. Outdoor sessions, however, are best booked in the morning or evening when the light is soft and flattering. If you’re unsure which time is best for your session, just send me a message. I’m happy to help you choose!

Do you share client photos online?

A.I love sharing a few sneak peeks from sessions on Facebook and Instagram sometimes to celebrate your images! If you prefer to keep your photos private, just let me know when booking.

Do you photograph weddings or events?

A.Because my main focus is family and portrait photography, I only accept a limited number of special events each year. If you’re interested in booking an event, please message me to inquire about availability.

Can I bundle sessions or create a package?

A.Yes! Book multiple sessions and receive a discount on your total. This offer can be applied to any combination of sessions.
Please note: bundled sessions must be paid in full at the time of booking.
Message me for details or to create your custom package.

What if I'm running late to my session?

A.I understand that things happen, and I’ll always make every effort to accommodate if you’re running behind. However, sessions begin promptly at the scheduled time, and late arrivals may result in a shorter session if there are other bookings scheduled afterward. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can make the most of our time together.

How far in advance should I book?

A.Most clients book 4–8 weeks in advance, especially during busy spring and fall seasons. Certain days/times tend to fill quickly, so it’s always best to reserve your date early especially if your availability is limited.

Do you offer payment plans?

A.Yes! I understand that portraits are an investment. Flexible payment options are available upon request. Just mention it when booking, and I'll be happy to work with you.

What is the best time of day for outdoor sessions?

A.To capture the soft, glowing light you see in my work, outdoor sessions are always scheduled near sunrise or sunset.

•Winter (Dec–Feb): Mornings 9–10:30 AM | Evenings 3–4:30 PM

•Spring (Mar–Apr): Mornings 8–9:30 AM | Evenings 4:30–6 PM

•Summer (May–Aug): Mornings 7–8:30 AM | Evenings 6–7:45 PM

•Fall (Sept–Nov): Mornings 7:30–9 AM | Evenings 4:30–6 PM

This timing ensures soft, flattering light and those dreamy golden tones that make outdoor portraits so beautiful.

What is the difference between high-resolution and web-size downloads?

A.When you download your gallery, you’ll see two options: High Resolution and Web Size.

✨ High Resolution
These are the full-quality image files — perfect for printing, framing, or creating albums. Always use the high-resolution files for any kind of print order (either through your gallery or your preferred lab).

🌿 Web Size
These are smaller, optimized versions of your images — ideal for sharing on social media, texting, or emailing. They’ll look beautiful online but aren’t meant for printing.
